Memelabs is excited to announce the newest contest to our block with the Houston Arts Alliance in “The Heart of Houston” which will feature some of the inspiring artists that Houston has to offer!

The Heart of Houston video contest has been launched to celebrate and elevate local artists asking the participants to submit one minute videos showcasing a favorite local artist in the category of theater, music, dance, visual arts, crafts or creative writing allowing for diverse and rich content. Following a huge launch party hosted at the creative hub in downtown Houston, many ongoing events will showcase local events giving participants and artists first-hand access to record their videos and meet the hottest artists in their city over the 3-month contest entry period.

The Houston Arts Alliance is a nonprofit charitable organization that seeks to advance the arts industry in Greater Houston. As a result they contribute to enhancing the region’s quality of life, economic competitiveness and attractiveness with a mission to nurture, fund and promote participation in the arts in Houston and Harris County. Active in Ike recovery, they have also provided resource information for artists and organizations on their blog to increase communication and leverage support which you can learn more about here.

Video’s are already up on the contest site so be sure to take a look – we’re sure to discover the many heARTS of Houston and hope you start thinking about your own community while discovering theirs!

A time of vacations, beaches, watermelon, fireworks, and … reruns. While we languish through a long, dry summer in TV-land, our characters are off doing, well, what exactly? When we reconnect with them for the season premiere, everyone on TV is looking a bit better, starting another school year and wearing scarves while romping through the foliage – just like us. Which leaves us with only one big question – what the %&*! did these characters do all summer??

Is Blair’s plane really heading to Tuscany, or is she discretely jetting off for a visit to Brazil’s best rhinoplastic surgeon (xo, xo)? Is McSteamy looking for love as the lucky bachelor of a popular reality TV show? And is time on the island going backwards, forwards, or standing still?

Now’s your chance to fill in the gaps and create some tribute TV. How are your favorite TV characters – past or present – spending this summer? Gather fellow fans, pull out the creative stops and get making some clips. Who knows, maybe your video will inspire the writer’s room of your favorite show, or convince executives to bring back a series for another season!

Send us your ideas via video, in three minutes or less, and encourage your friends to vote for you. The most voted video will be named “Fan Favorite Video”; a second grand prize will be awarded “Judge’s Favorite Video” by a jury of your TV peers – industry experts who share your passion for all things television.

For the winners, FanTrust will pay your cable bill – meaning you can stay on top of all of next season’s best television.

We are really excited about our newest contest with Transworld - some of you may recall that we ran a Snowboarding contest with them last year – this time it’s a Skateboarding contest. So get your cameras ready and practice your hottest tricks.

The contest has been live now for a couple of days and all ready we’ve received an amazing number of videos in with all sorts of hot tricks. So if you think you have what it takes to enter the contest, now is the time to do it. Good luck to everyone…can’t wait to see what you come up with.

The Voting Period for the Viewers’ Choice Awards will end at 11:59 PM (PT) on Saturday December 22nd so tell your family, friends, and neighbors to get out there and vote for their favorite videos!

Remember we’ve got two contests going here with two sets of prizes; the Grand Prize and the Viewers’ Choice Awards. The Grand Prize winner-chosen by a panel of judges from Wells Fargo and the Tournament of Roses- will be announced soon and the winning video will be edited into a commercial to be broadcast during the nationally televised coverage of the 2008 Rose Parade on January 1st, 2008!

The Viewers’ Choice Award, for the eligible video with the highest number of votes, will win an Apple iPhone. Viewers’ Choice Runners-Up Awards will be given to the next (10) videos with highest number of votes which will each win a Flip Video camcorder!
